When to reorder inventory: the formula

Latest order date = today + (current stock − safety stock) ÷ daily sales − lead time. Read it right to left. Current stock minus safety stock is the inventory you are willing to sell down before the buffer gets touched. Divided by daily sales, that becomes the days until stock reaches the buffer line. Subtract the supplier lead time — the days a replenishment order spends in production and transit — and what remains is how long you can still afford to wait before ordering.

Add that count to today and you have the latest safe order date. Order on or before it, and new stock lands just as you reach the buffer. Order after it, and some stretch of stockout — or an emergency air-freight bill — is already locked in no matter how fast you move.

Sellable-down stock is 320 − 60 = 260 units, which lasts 260 ÷ 8 = 32.5 days. Subtract the 25-day lead time and the brand has 7.5 days left to place the PO — the latest order date is about a week from today.

The other outputs frame the stakes. Runway is 320 ÷ 8 = 40 days, so the projected stockout date sits 40 days out. Forty days sounds comfortable; seven does not.
