About ShelfOwl

What ShelfOwl is

ShelfOwl is a set of inventory and profit tools for small ecommerce brands that manage stock in spreadsheets. The free layer is a matrix of calculators — true COGS, reorder points, safety stock, marketplace fees, break-even and the one we care most about, the latest safe order date per SKU. The paid layer, opening via waitlist, applies the same math to your whole catalog at once from a single CSV upload and emails you before each SKU’s order date comes due.

The name is the product: an owl watching shelves. Not managing them, not syncing them, not “revolutionizing” them — watching, calculating, and telling you the one date per SKU that matters.

Why we built it

The founding observation is that restock timing sits in a tooling gap. Enterprise inventory platforms solve it convincingly — behind quote-based pricing and multi-week onboarding that a 60-SKU candle brand will never buy. Store plugins solve it narrowly — until inventory spans two marketplaces and a 3PL. And the spreadsheet, where most small brands actually live, answers “what did I sell?” but stays silent on “when must I reorder?”.

So ShelfOwl commits to the middle: self-serve, platform-agnostic, CSV-in. No store OAuth, no plugin, no sales call. If you can export a spreadsheet, you can use everything we make.

How we think about trust

A calculator you cannot audit is an opinion with an input box. Every formula we use is published in full on the methodology page, and every marketplace fee rate we prefill links to the official pricing page it came from, with the date we verified it, on the sources page. When a platform changes a rate, the change lands in the rate updates log. And because rates are inputs rather than constants, you can always override ours with yours.

The free calculators run entirely in your browser — producing a result makes zero network requests, which you can verify in your browser’s developer tools. The only personal data the site stores is an email address, if you choose to join the waitlist.

The honest state of the business

ShelfOwl is new and small, and this page will not pretend otherwise. The calculators are live and complete; the bulk forecaster is in development, gated on real demand signals rather than a roadmap fantasy — which is why the pricing page has a waitlist instead of a checkout. Founding members (the first 50 on the waitlist) lock $19/mo as a thank-you for the early trust.

If something here is wrong — a formula, a fee rate, a claim — we want to know. Tell us and we will fix it and log the correction.

ShelfOwl has a sister product, SnapVivid, built for the same audience at a different moment: SnapVivid handles product imagery when you launch; ShelfOwl handles the math when you restock. Same philosophy in both — self-serve, no lock-in, priced for small brands, and honest about what each tool does and does not do.
